Customs Clearance Coordinator

Position Customs Clearance Clerk – Import & Export
Location: Grays, Essex
Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30am – 17:00pm

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join an Italian-owned freight forwarding group with a global network of offices, offering comprehensive logistics and supply chain solutions worldwide.

This growing business is now looking to appoint an experienced Customs Clerk to support its freight forwarding operations in Grays, Essex, ensuring all import and export customs activities are completed accurately, compliantly, and efficiently.

Customs Clearance Clerk Role:

Working within a busy freight forwarding environment, you’ll handle end-to-end customs documentation for both imports and exports, maintaining full compliance with HMRC and internal procedures.

Your key duties will include:

• Creating Import GVMS and Inventory-linked entries in CDS, plus Export Entries in ASM
• Managing the customs mailboxes and ensuring timely responses to clients and internal teams
• Completing JLR uploads via the Appian system and ensuring depot compliance
• Preparing T forms, classifying commodities, and performing detailed document checks
• Liaising directly with HMRC and Border Force when required
• Supporting ETSF processes, duty reclaims, and post-clearance amendments
• Maintaining accurate records and internal tracking spreadsheets
• Assisting in the training of colleagues to ensure coverage across the customs function

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings solid experience within freight forwarding customs operations, ideally covering both import and export procedures.

You should have:

• Proven experience in Customs Clearance within a freight forwarding environment
• Strong working knowledge of CDS, ASM, GVMS, and Destin8 systems
• Understanding of HMRC regulations and commodity classification
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
• A proactive, team-oriented approach with the ability to prioritise and work independently
