EU Road Freight Operator
EU Road Freight Operator – Basildon – Up to £30,000
Our client, who are a known Freight Forwarder are seeking a motivated and reliable Freight Forwarder to join their Freight Forwarding team based out of Basildon. You will play a key role in supporting the Customer Services & Freight Forwarding Manager in ensuring seamless operations and exceptional customer service. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a passion for logistics and customer service to contribute to the company’s growth.
Location: Basildon Office
Working Hours: Monday – Friday – 08:30 – 17:30
Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Customer Services in aligning departmental operations with the company’s vision of increased competitiveness and profitability.
- Execute the department’s strategy for excellent customer service and business development.
- Accurately record customer bookings in the operations system.
- Maintain effective communication with sales teams, report new leads, and manage shipment handovers.
- Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the department.
- Drive workflow efficiency improvements in collaboration with the line manager.
- Manage key accounts and ensure timely response to general enquiries.
- Follow up on client feedback and enquiries to ensure satisfaction.
- Handle customer complaints in line with SOPs and within agreed timelines.
- Support Credit Control by assisting with the collection of overdue payments.
- Conduct due diligence checks for all new customers.
- Uphold high standards of personal conduct, health & safety, and professionalism; promote adherence to company policies.
- Represent the company professionally at all times.
- Manage relationships with clients and subcontractors in line with company procedures.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and legal guidelines for all financial transactions.
- Ensure all bookings (international, national, cross-trade) are accurately recorded in the operations system.
- Provide timely and cost-effective customer quotations.
- Confirm customer quotations by phone within 30 minutes.
- Book consignments with third-party contractors and origin offices.
- Manage delivery bookings and liaise with customers and suppliers.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Manage invoicing and associated administrative tasks.
Skills, Experience & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of road freight market rates and quoting processes for a UK based forwarder.
- No restrictions to working in the UK. Must have right to work
- Ability to manage own workload and work effectively within a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in Excel reporting and general administration.
- Solid understanding of logistics operations and procedures.
- Confident working both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
