Design Manager – M&E Building Services

£65,000-£80,000 Basic + Car Allowance + Private Healthcare

We’re recruiting an experienced M&E Design Manager for an established mechanical and electrical contractor delivering building services projects across the public and private sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Manager, Electrical Design Manager or MEP Design Manager to take responsibility for the design coordination and delivery of multiple projects valued up to £12 million.

You’ll work closely with consultants, architects, main contractors and project teams, ensuring designs are technically compliant, commercially viable and delivered on schedule.

The Role

• Manage the design process across multiple mechanical and electrical building services projects

• Coordinate internal design teams and external M&E consultants

• Establish design programmes and monitor progress against project deadlines

• Review mechanical, electrical and public health design documentation

• Ensure designs comply with project specifications, regulations and budgets

• Coordinate heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical and public health services

• Review spatial coordination and resolve technical design clashes

• Manage design meetings with consultants, architects and contractors

• Review and coordinate BIM Level 2 design information

• Manage technical queries, RFIs and design changes

• Liaise with preconstruction teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved

• Ensure coordinated working drawings are ready for installation

• Support Project Managers with technical design queries

• Coordinate design handovers to construction teams

• Maintain design quality, documentation and health and safety standards

The Candidate

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in M&E / Building Services design

• Experience as a Design Manager, Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Senior Electrical Design Engineer or MEP Design Coordinator

• Strong understanding of mechanical or electrical building services design

• Knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water or electrical building systems

• Experience managing external design consultants and coordinating multidisciplinary designs

• Strong knowledge of BIM Level 2 and BIM Execution Plans

• Understanding of low and zero carbon building technologies

• Experience working on Design & Build construction projects

• Knowledge of traditional and two-stage procurement processes

• Building Services Engineering degree or relevant qualification, or working towards one

• Strong project coordination, communication and organisational skills

• Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines

• Experience working directly with clients, consultants and main contractors
