We are supporting a specialist engineering manufacturer in the recruitment of a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys taking projects from initial concept through to production, working in a collaborative, project-driven environment.

The role sits at the heart of the business, interfacing with Engineering, Sales and Production to ensure the successful delivery of bespoke lifting and handling solutions.

The Role

You will be responsible for the design and development of lifting and handling equipment, managing projects from concept design through detailed engineering to production release.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing mechanical systems from concept through to manufacture

• Producing detailed part and assembly drawings using SolidWorks 3D CAD

• Completing hand calculations, stress analysis and supporting FEA activities

• Ensuring designs meet relevant technical specifications and CE/UKCA compliance requirements

• Producing full project documentation and technical files

• Conducting risk assessments and FMEA reports

• Supporting engineering change processes

• Assisting Sales with technical proposals, ROM cost estimates, milestones and planning

• Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials within the ERP system

• Attending design reviews, trials and occasional customer site meetings

• Liaising with external contractors and test houses to ensure compliance and quality standards

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a mechanical design role

• Strong 3D CAD capability – ideally SolidWorks

• Working knowledge of stress calculations and FEA

• Ability to obtain BPSS clearance

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desirable:

• Knowledge of lifting and handling regulations

• Experience working within defence
