My client is a highly respected and established M&E contractor specialising in delivering top-quality mechanical and electrical services for a diverse range of projects. From commercial and industrial developments to residential complexes and institutional facilities, they pride themselves on their commitment to excellence, innovation, and client satisfaction. Due to a track record of successful project delivery, they are looking to grow their pre-construction team with the addition of a Mechanical Estimator
This is suitable for someone who is already in the role of an estimator, alternatively, someone who carries out or is involved with estimating as part of a different role such as a Project Manager, Contract Manager, Senior Engineer, Site Supervisor or Mechanical Manager
Package:
- £40,000 to £50,000 depending on experience
- £5000 car allowance
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Full time, permanent position
- 33 days holiday
- Private health insurance
Qualifications:
- Experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the M&E contracting industry
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and related components
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
- Demonstrated ability to perform accurate quantity take-offs and cost estimates
- Familiarity with industry-specific software and tools for estimating, such as Accubid, QuickPen, or similar applications
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with acute attention to detail
- Strong negotiation and communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Relevant certifications or qualifications in mechanical engineering or related field preferred
Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed analysis of project specifications, drawings, and technical documents to accurately determine the scope of work for mechanical systems
- Collaborate with the design team to review and interpret project requirements and provide input on cost-effective design alternatives
- Prepare accurate quantity take-offs and material, labor, and equipment cost estimates for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and more
- Source and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids, negotiate pricing, and analyze vendor proposals to ensure cost competitiveness and compliance with project requirements
- Utilize industry-specific software and tools to develop accurate estimates, budgets, and tender submissions
- Collaborate with the project management team to provide value engineering options, cost-saving strategies, and technical recommendations
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and market conditions to ensure accurate cost projections and competitive pricing
