Position: Transport Manager
Location: Stanford-le-Hope, Essex
Hours: Full-time, Permanent | 40 hours per week | Monday to Friday (rotating shift pattern between 6am-10pm)
Salary: up to £46,000

A leading global logistics organisation is looking for an experienced Transport Manager to join their contract logistics division at a multi-user site supporting 13 customers. This is a key role where you’ll be responsible for driving performance, managing hauliers and transport planners, ensuring compliance, and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to optimise service and profitability.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Oversee and coordinate all transport activities to ensure timely and accurate bookings and deliveries.
- Lead, coach and develop a small team (2 direct reports) to meet key transport KPIs, including OTIF performance.
- Work closely with a mix of customers and hauliers, maintaining excellent service and relationships.
- Optimise routes, margins, and haulier selection to maximise transport profitability.
- Manage weekly KPI reviews and lead corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement.
- Ensure all transport operations adhere to audit, safety, and compliance standards.
- Support the Business Development team in costing and planning new transport solutions.
- Act as a point of contact for escalations and problem-solving across customers and internal departments.
What We’re Looking For:
- 3+ years of transport management or team leadership experience in a logistics or haulage environment.
- Strong knowledge of route planning, cost margins, and carrier/haulier management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and develop operational talent.
- Experience working in a multi-customer environment with strong customer-facing skills.
- Working understanding of compliance, audits, and safety processes in transport.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to manage and improve transport P&L.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and familiarity with WMS/TMS systems.
- Excellent organisational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
