We’re hiring a Transport Manager to lead a large, busy operation for a major food distribution business in Manchester, running a fleet of circa 100 vehicles. This role is all about leadership, engagement and performance. If you can build high-performing teams, drive accountability and create a positive, results-focused culture – we want to hear from you.

This is a hands-on leadership role where your ability to motivate, support and develop your team will directly impact service levels and operational success.

The Role

Lead, inspire and develop a large team of drivers and transport colleagues

• Create a high-performance culture focused on service, teamwork and accountability

• Manage recruitment, onboarding, performance and absence

• Coach and support frontline managers and drivers to deliver their best

• Drive KPIs across service, efficiency and cost control

• Oversee route planning and resource allocation to maximise productivity

• Handle investigations, performance conversations and incident management professionally

• Maintain strong operational standards across the fleet

This is a fast-moving environment that requires visible leadership, strong decision-making and the confidence to manage change.

About You

• Proven experience leading transport teams in a busy distribution environment

• Strong people management and coaching skills

• Experience managing large teams and driving performance through KPIs

• Confident communicator who can influence at all levels

• Calm under pressure with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset

• Transport compliance knowledge is important, but leadership capability is key

• CPC qualification desirable
