Transport Operator – Northampton

Location: UK
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off – Days
Salary: Up to £35,000 (Bonus and car allowance on offer after completion of 6 month probation)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Transport Operator to join a fast-paced operations team within a leading UK transport company. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth coordination of drivers, port operations, and customer communications while maintaining high service standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate multiple drivers across daily operations
• Communicate effectively with port authorities and terminals
• Book delivery and entry slots for port operations
• Utilise the TOPS transport system to accurately record driver start and finish times
• Monitor driver progress, proactively chasing ETAs and ensuring on-time performance
• Reroute and adjust transport plans in response to operational changes
• Ensure all Proof of Deliveries (PODs) are correctly matched to jobs within the system
• Liaise with customers to provide updates on delays and revised ETAs
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with operational procedures

Skills & Experience Required

• Previous experience as a Transport Operator for a UK based general haulage company – essential
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Good working knowledge of UK geography
• Ability to work independently and use initiative
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
• Proven problem-solving ability in a fast-paced environment
• Flexible and adaptable to meet business demands
• Willingness to work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern
