Transport Planner

Location: Ashbourne, Co. Meath
Salary: Up to €45,000 per annum
Hours: Mixed day patterns with work hours between 06:00 – 18:30
Additional: 1 in 4 Saturday mornings required

Job Purpose

As a Transport Planner, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient and compliant planning of domestic trailer and container movements across Ireland. This is a hands‑on operational position working within a busy planning team to support general haulage, route optimisation, driver communication and fleet utilisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan daily trailer and container movements across Ireland, optimising routes for efficiency and compliance with delivery windows.
• Coordinate general haulage schedules and adjust plans based on operational requirements.
• Communicate proactively with drivers regarding schedules, tachographs, infringements and Working Time Directives (WTD) compliance.
• Use Transport Management Systems (TMS) to schedule, monitor and update job statuses.
• Identify and plan backloading opportunities to improve fleet utilisation and reduce empty running.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of all transport activities.
• Liaise with internal teams and external partners to ensure high standards of service delivery.

Experience & Skills Required

• Proven experience as a Transport Planner working for a transport company, with responsibility for domestic planning.
• Strong geographical knowledge of Ireland and practical understanding of route planning.
• Experience dealing with drivers on operational matters, including tachographs, infringements and WTDs.
• Good understanding of general haulage operations involving trailers and containers.
• Proficient in the use of Transport Management Systems (TMS).
• Demonstrable experience in identifying and planning backloads.
• Excellent organisational, communication and problem‑solving skills.
