Import Customs Clerk

Bradford | Up to £32,000 | Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm

We are recruiting for an experienced Import Customs Clerk to join a well-established global logistics company based in Bradford.

The role would suit someone with import customs clearance experience who is confident handling customs entries, checking documentation and working in a fast-paced freight forwarding environment.

The Role

As an Import Customs Clerk, you will be responsible for completing import customs declarations, checking shipping documentation and ensuring shipments are cleared accurately and in line with HMRC requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete import customs entries accurately and efficiently
• Prepare and check customs documentation
• Classify goods using commodity codes
• Check commercial invoices, packing lists, Bills of Lading and airway bills
• Liaise with customers, suppliers, hauliers and internal departments
• Monitor shipments and ensure clearances are completed on time
• Resolve customs queries, holds, errors and documentation issues
• Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements and company procedures
• Maintain accurate records and update internal systems
• Support the wider freight forwarding team when required

Requirements

• Previous experience in import customs clearance
• Good understanding of import procedures and customs documentation
• Knowledge of commodity codes, CDS and HMRC requirements
• Experience using customs systems such as Sequoia, Destin8, CNS or similar would be advantageous
• Freight forwarding, logistics or shipping experience would be beneficial
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Confident communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Package

• Salary up to £32,000, depending on experience
• Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm
