European Road Freight Groupage Operator Overview
My client is seeking an experienced and highly organised European Road Freight Groupage Operator to join their busy operations team in Lichfield. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end management of European groupage shipments, ensuring efficient planning, execution, and customer service across import and export movements.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated logistics professional with strong knowledge of European road freight operations, customs procedures, and transport planning.
European Road Freight Groupage Operator Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and manage daily European import and export groupage movements.
- Build and maximise trailer utilisation while maintaining service levels and cost efficiency.
- Liaise with overseas agents, hauliers, customers, and internal departments to ensure smooth shipment execution.
- Arrange collections, deliveries, and transhipments throughout the UK and mainland Europe.
- Monitor shipments proactively and communicate updates, delays, and exceptions to customers.
- Prepare and verify all transport documentation, including CMRs, manifests, and customs paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with post-Brexit customs procedures and collaborate with customs brokers where required.
- Negotiate rates and maintain strong working relationships with carriers and subcontractors.
- Resolve operational issues promptly and effectively while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the European operations department.
- Maintain accurate records within the transport management system (TMS) and ensure data integrity.
European Road Freight Groupage Operator Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience within European road freight operations, preferably in groupage.
- Strong understanding of import and export procedures across European markets.
- Working knowledge of customs requirements, including transit procedures and post-Brexit documentation.
- Experience planning full loads, part loads, and groupage services.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships with customers and international partners.
- Strong problem-solving and organisational abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
