Ocean Freight Operator Job Summary:

They are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Ocean Freight Operator to join their team in Southampton. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing ocean freight shipments from booking to final delivery, ensuring smooth and timely execution. This role requires excellent coordination skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of international shipping regulations and procedures.

Ocean Freight Operator Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end ocean freight operations, including bookings, documentation, and tracking of shipments.
  • Liaise with shipping lines, hauliers, customs authorities, and clients to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
  • Prepare and verify shipping documents such as bills of lading, customs declarations, and invoices.
  • Monitor shipments and provide regular status updates to clients, addressing any issues proactively.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and customs procedures.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and suppliers to optimise shipping costs.
  • Work closely with internal departments, including sales and customer service, to ensure seamless operations.
  • Resolve any operational challenges, including delays, damages, or discrepancies in shipments.
  • Maintain accurate records and update freight management systems.
  • Assist in process improvements to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Ocean Freight Operator Key Requirements:

  • Previous experience in ocean freight operations within a freight forwarding or logistics company.
  • Strong understanding of international shipping regulations, Incoterms, and customs procedures.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in using freight management software and MS Office applications.
  • A team player with a proactive and customer-focused approach.
  • Experience in negotiating freight rates is a plus.
