Road Freight Supervisor

I’m currently recruiting for an experienced Road Export Supervisor to join a well-established international logistics business with an extensive European network and a strong reputation for delivering customer-focused transport solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of an established European road export operation, leading a team of five and playing a key role in service delivery, operational performance and continuous improvement.

The Role

You will oversee the day-to-day running of the European road Freight department, ensuring shipments move efficiently, customers receive an excellent service and your team consistently meets operational targets.

Working closely with internal departments, overseas partners and carrier networks, you’ll be responsible for maintaining service standards, improving processes and developing your team.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, support and develop a team of 5+ Freight Operators.

• Oversee European road freight operations, including FTL, LTL and groupage.

• Allocate workloads effectively and monitor individual and team performance.

• Manage customer, supplier and partner queries, complaints and escalations.

• Monitor KPIs covering service levels, shipment accuracy, margins and operational efficiency.

• Coordinate with hauliers to maintain service standards and maximise trailer utilisation.

• Oversee customs compliance, export documentation and shipment processes.

• Identify operational inefficiencies and implement continuous improvements.

• Conduct team briefings, appraisals, one-to-ones and ongoing coaching.

• Work closely with transport, warehouse, customer service and wider operational teams.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

• At least 2 years’ experience supervising or leading road freight operations.

• Strong knowledge of European road freight operations.

• Previous European groupage planning experience.

• Good understanding of customs procedures and export documentation.

• Experience managing operational workloads and supporting a team.

• Confident communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Desirable:

• ADR awareness.

• Experience managing haulier and carrier relationships.

• Previous involvement in operational process improvements.

• Familiarity with ASM Sequoia or other transport management systems.
