Transport Operator

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Operator to join their busy transport team. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong understanding of UK transport operations.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the efficient coordination of drivers, customer deliveries, and port operations while maintaining exceptional service levels.

Job type: Permanent

Shifts: Sunday to Thursday | Nights – 19:00 – 05:00

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage multiple drivers on a daily basis.
• Communicate effectively with ports to ensure smooth transport operations.
• Book delivery and collection slots for port entries and arrivals.
• Use the TOPS transport management system to record driver start and finish times accurately.
• Monitor driver progress, obtaining ETAs and ensuring deliveries are completed on schedule.
• Re-route jobs and adjust schedules as operational requirements dictate.
• Ensure all Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation is accurately matched to the relevant jobs within the system.
• Liaise with customers regarding potential delays and provide accurate delivery updates and revised ETAs.
• Support the wider transport team in maintaining efficient and compliant transport operations.
• Respond quickly and effectively to operational issues as they arise.

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must possess:

• Previous experience working as a Transport Operator (essential).
• Experience in containers (essential)
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Excellent knowledge of UK geography and transport routes.
• The ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
• Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
• A flexible approach to working hours and business requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with transport documentation and systems.
• Good IT skills and experience using transport management systems.
